Taner Ercömert is a senior executive and renewable energy professional with over 40 years of experience in the energy sector, with a strong focus on hydropower plants design-tender-project-contract managements, project implemention, plant operation and electricity sales & trading. He is considered to be the Doyen of the Energy Sector in Türkiye.
He currently serves as the Chairperson pf Board at Best Blue Enerji Engineering Inc. – Türkiye, where he leads engineering and consulting services for the renewable energy project developments plus electricity generation planning – generation optimisation – electricity procurement-sales-trading-aggregation services and also sales of power plants.
He began his career between 1981 and 2007 as an engineer ( later on as a section manager, Deputy Head and Acting Head of Department of Dams and HEPPs ) at DSI – the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works of Türkiye, working on the tendering and implementation of major hydropowere plants in Türkiye, like Atatürk, Karakaya, Ilısu, Deriner, Ermenek, Borçka, Muratlı, Çatalan, Altınkata, Dernent, HEPPs, etc.
In June 2007, he joined Limak Holding as the General Manager of Energy Generation Group. When he started working at Limak, the installed capacity of hydropower plants of the group was only 8 MW and as of April 2022 (the month he left), the company’s hydropower operational capacity has reached 1321 MW and total installed capacity inc. other plants has exceeded 3000 MW.
In addition to his public experience of 25 years at DSİ plus his private sector experience of 15 years at Limak, He was the Executive Member of Hydropower Plants Businesspeople Association / HESIAD for a period of 13 years, till April 2021. He is also a member of the Turkish National Committee of World Energy Council for a period of more than 30 years. His renewable energy portfolioa has already exceeded 10 000 MW.
He has also worked as a member of several Joint Economic Commissions, intergovernmental business councils, intergovernmental energy cooperation groups and intergovernmental energy working groups during his management duties at DSI. He has attended several international energy congresses in Türkiye and abroad. He has been at many turbine & generator, transformer, governor, crane, valve, gate etc. manufacturing factories in so many countries.
He was one of the founding partners of Best Blue Enerji Mühendislik A.Ş. , mainly working on Engineering and Consulting services & Owner’s Engineering for renewable energy projects, investment consulting, tender execution and management, project and contract managements, renewable energy project development, hybrid solar power projects feasibility preparation and implementation, due diligence reporting, power generation planning, optimization and realisation, electricity procurement / selling / trading / aggregation activities, maintenance and trouble-shooting works, digitalisation works for renewable energy power plants.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University – METU ( ODTÜ )in Ankara.
