As we move toward COP31 in Antalya, we are pleased to start CDR Brief, a dedicated new section focused on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). Co-curated by COP31 Türkiye Brief community members Pınar Öncel and Göker Avcı, this initiative is designed to bridge the significant knowledge gap within the climate community regarding removals. While CDR is a critical pillar of global climate strategy, it remains a complex and often misunderstood topic. Our goal is to further grow the community and make sure the stakeholders are informed, curious, and prepared for high-level interaction at the COP31.
The program includes two core pillars:
The CDR Brief Newsletter: A bi-weekly series designed to build collective know-how from the ground up. We will cover everything from foundational concepts like the “bathtub analogy” and the potential role of CDR in ETS, to technical standards like additionality and permanence. By moving steadily from basics to advanced topics, we aim to support unlocking and scaling up CDR rather than just discussing the concept.

CDR Stage Event Series: A monthly series of online and face-to-face sessions held between April and October. These events will facilitate discussions specifically focused on scaling high-integrity carbon removal in Türkiye and the wider region: From the Mediterranean to Central Asia.
By the time the climate community meets in Antalya, we want the wider ecosystem to have the capacity to engage deeply with CDR as a vital tool for our shared future.
Stay tuned for the kick-off issue of the CDR Brief newsletter!
