CATL Introduces Battery Technology That Charges in Nine Minutes

Battery technology giant CATL is driving a major transformation in the logistics sector with its new Tectrans II battery system, developed for commercial vehicles. Capable of reaching a full charge in less than nine minutes, the technology aims to eliminate long waiting times, particularly in urban delivery and transportation operations. In addition to its high performance, the battery offers a 10-year or 1-million-kilometer warranty. By reducing internal cell resistance, it minimizes heat generation and provides commercial vehicle operators with a durable, long-lasting solution.

To support the fast-charging performance of the Tectrans II battery, CATL is also making significant investments in charging infrastructure. The company is deploying ultra-fast charging and battery-swapping stations for both passenger and commercial vehicles. The new stations feature specialized cable systems designed to match the charging ports of light commercial vehicles, allowing drivers to charge their vehicles conveniently without having to reposition them.

On the technical side, CATL has significantly extended battery life through improvements to the graphite structure used in its battery cells, while reducing internal cell resistance to approximately 50% below industry standards. This engineering achievement reduces the heat generated during fast charging and improves overall battery efficiency. The company plans to expand this infrastructure across China to 190 cities with 4,000 integrated stations by the end of the year. Through this initiative, CATL aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in urban delivery, long-distance transportation, and cold-chain logistics.
