
California-based manufacturer Ride1Up has introduced the Revv1 Evo, a new moped-style electric bicycle equipped with semi-solid-state battery technology designed to address the lifespan and reliability limitations of conventional lithium-ion batteries. As the first mainstream and affordable e-bike in the United States to adopt this advanced battery chemistry, the model enters the market with a price tag of $2,395. By replacing flammable liquid electrolytes with a stable gel-like mixture, the technology promises three times longer lifespan, improved performance in freezing temperatures, and enhanced safety compared to traditional batteries.
Developed by Ride1Up, the Revv1 Evo represents a significant middle ground between conventional lithium-ion batteries and fully solid-state batteries that are still under development for the automotive industry. The new chemistry delivers improved chemical stability and fire resistance without facing the manufacturing challenges that currently hinder large-scale production of fully solid-state cells. According to company data, while standard batteries typically begin to experience noticeable degradation after 500 charge cycles, the Revv1 Evo’s battery retains 80% of its capacity even after 1,200 charging cycles. For average users, this advancement could extend battery life from approximately four years to nearly a decade.
The performance specifications of the new battery system are equally impressive. Thanks to superior thermal management compared to liquid-based cells, the battery can be fully charged in just two hours without suffering accelerated degradation. Even at temperatures as low as -20°C, the battery maintains around 70% of its capacity, providing reliable performance for riders in winter conditions. Depending on riding mode and assistance level, the bike offers a range between 48 and 96.5 kilometers on a single charge. Power is delivered by a 750-watt motor capable of producing 100 Nm of torque.
With pedal assistance, the Revv1 Evo can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h and features a dedicated battery management system that monitors battery health in real time. Its equipment package includes DRT suspension and Vee Huntsman all-terrain tires. Weighing approximately 41 kilograms, the robust construction makes the vehicle closer to a traditional moped than a lightweight bicycle, making it more suitable for open-road riding than urban commuting. Priced at $2,395, the model offers a more affordable option compared to competitors using similar technologies. Pre-orders are already available in the U.S. market, with first deliveries expected to begin in August.
