Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion is preparing to build a major industrial facility worth €950 million in Valladolid, Spain. Focusing on the production and recycling of battery materials, the strategic investment will receive €138 million in public funding from the Spanish government. Financed under the PERTE VEC program, the project aims to strengthen Spain’s electric vehicle ecosystem. The facility will be built on a 12-hectare site, with the first phase featuring a recycling center capable of processing 200,000 tonnes of materials annually, followed by the construction of a cathode materials production plant.
The project, announced by Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu and Minister of Transport Óscar Puente, is considered an important part of the country’s vision for electric vehicles and connected mobility. With a total investment exceeding €940 million, the large-scale initiative is expected to significantly increase the region’s industrial capacity.
Construction of the complex near Valladolid is scheduled to begin in 2027. The recycling facility planned for the first phase will have the capacity to process up to 200,000 metric tonnes of battery materials per year. In the second phase, a cathode materials production facility with the same capacity will be established. The company has not yet announced a definitive completion date for the facilities.
